This particular show was organized in order to grow the band’s profile in the UK. They were doing quite well in Italy and Belgium, but over in their homeland, they were doing virtually no impact. This show would be looked at as a Genesis Convention of sorts for fans, and a thousand custom rosettes stamped with “GENESIS ‘72” were created, with the purpose of being thrown into the crowd by Peter Gabriel. As for the show itself, it’s a hot one. The set list is absolutely packed to the brim, with both Watcher of the Skies and Happy the Man being played (Watcher had replaced Happy the Man by this point), the latter being the final performance. The band also throw in a one off instrumental improv, which is completely out of the ordinary for the time period. Funnily enough, I consider this to be one of Peter's 'weaker' 1972 performances, but that doesn't say much - he sounds fantastic as per usual for the tour, with the ending to The Musical Box perhaps being his greatest delivery ever captured. One of the most essential early Genesis bootlegs.
