My goal in designing this storage system was to take SethBling's infinite storage system concept and adapt it for Minecraft Java 1.16.4 while making as many improvements as possible.
Some of the improvements include:
-Multiple minecart recall
-Faster cart cycle time (approx 3 carts per second)
-Autosorting overflow protection with overflow chest.
-Search item removal instead of addition (removing the need for named query items),
I tried to make the system as easy to use as possible with several safeguards to prevent the system from breaking. Some of these safeguards include:
-System won't break when throwing in 16-stackable or non-stackable items into queue hopper
-Cancel button can be pressed anytime without breaking system
-System won't break if more than max capacity (6) are called.
-System won't break if user attempts to return carts while system is running.
Some drawbacks: using more than 100-200 minecarts can cause the game to slow significantly while searching and sound will begin to play improperly temporarily due to having too many entities. Doesn't matter too much in a singleplayer world.
Another drawback is that the auto-sorting feature becomes very slow once a significant number of items are added to the system (no input from huge item farms).
Some interesting design changes from SethBling's design:
-The repeater clock for the cart cycler was replaced with a redstone block attached to the slime block on the piston to allow for faster cycle speeds.
-The leftover minecarts after a search are immediately returned to the starting block (accounting for full minecarts being heavier).
-Unique rail placement (after much trial and error) to allow for returned minecarts to pick up the extracted item from the sorting hopper when found.
-A minecart on top of a honey block attached to a sticky piston enables the sorting item to be returned to the query chest quickly.
