“Over the years, every time I go abroad I talk to my foreign counterparts, I would get compliments for the strong work ethic of Filipinos. I would be told that Filipinos have unparalleled skills and are efficient and are trustworthy. And I know that is the same here in Brunei,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said in his keynote message as he addressed the Filipino community in Brunei Darussalam on May 28, 2024.
The President expressed his appreciation to his countrymen for the excellent brand of service that they provide in their work places that earned them the respect and positive image of Filipinos in the Sultanate.
He cited various programs and priorities being pushed by his Administration to attain economic growth that will eventually benefit overseas Filipinos and their families. One of these is the approved investments totaling PhP1.26 trillion, surpassing the initial target.
“To far exceed this mark, by reaching PhP1.26 trillion, is a clear testament to the growing confidence investors place in fostering their businesses’ growth within the Philippines. Upon full operations, the projects are expected to produce 49,030 jobs for Filipinos,” he said.
The Chief Executive emphasized the importance of investing in the development, productivity and modernization of the agriculture sector by building infrastructure and improving market linkages of farmers, as well as strengthening the value chain. He vowed to pursue the ‘Build, Better, More’ infrastructure program through the construction of roads and bridges, efficient means of transportation, and the rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport worth PhP170.6 billion that will entail the improvement of passenger terminals, airside facilities and enabling of intermodal transfers.
“My obligation to the Filipino people is a realistic vision. The best days and years are not in our past, but in our future; but the solution cannot be done by the government alone…Even as you build your lives in Brunei, join me as we work together for a Bagong Pilipinas,” the President concluded in his speech.
During the event, Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn Tirol-Ignacio gifted President Marcos Jr. a commemorative yearbook entitled ‘Forty Years of Friendship’, a publication documenting the Filipino community organizations in the Sultanate and their invaluable contributions in bridging the two nations.
