The Kentucky Railway Museum was chartered in 1954 and opened to the public four years later in 1958 on 6 acres of leased land off of River Road in Louisville KY with three pieces of equipment. In 1975 the search was on to find a new place to house the growing museum and to reduce the risk of flooding and in 1977 KRM leased 40 acers of land from Jefferson County in the Ormsby Village area at the corner of La Grange Road and Dorsey Lane by Anchorage KY. However, Jefferson County informed the museum that the museums lease would not be renewed in 1993 so the search was on once again. KRM would eventually buy 17 miles of the forming Lebanon Branch of the L&N railroad from CSXT and permanently move to the small town of New Haven KY. This home video footage shot by museum member Mike Kley and his father of the first of several moves the museum will make in 1990 to get equipment from Anchorage to the new site in New Haven.
