I saw Bright Eyes at Joseph's Well, a pub in Leeds, many years ago about the time that "Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground" came out. The main thing I remember was him standing on the drum kit, swigging from a bottle of red wine. I wasn't that bothered back then, but Conor Oberst has since become one of my favourite songwriters and this one of his best. It's another of those songs that just seems to fit fingerstyle guitar without thinking about it too much. I would have liked to have got more of the piano melody in under the singing, but I couldn't get my fingers to do something different to what my voice was doing.
