Drawing on complex surfaces in SketchUp with native tools can be a tricky experience. Luckily, there's a tool from Fredo6 called Tools on Surface that can draw lines, curves, and shapes directly on non-flat surfaces. One of my favorite applications in Tools on Surface is the offset on surface function, which is basically the SketchUp offset tool, but for curved faces!
I highly recommend coupling this tool with Fredo's Joint Push Pull tool for things like creating holes, recesses, and more!
