The notable releases of Grand Seiko have, at least in recent years, been characterized by hyper-specific special editions. For many brands, this would be a problem, a sign that focus and intent has been spread too thin. For Grand Seiko, it is anything but – after all, there are few brands whose focus and intent shine through as clearly as Grand Seiko.
Released in late 2021, the “Snow on Blue Lake” SBGH287 is a prime example of this tremendous care and attention. Built around a stellar Hi-Beat Grand Seiko movement, and housed in the undeniable 44GS case, this limited edition of 140, characterized by its radiant pale blue dial, represents among the best Grand Seiko has to offer.
Initially available exclusively in Southeast Asia, the “Snow on Blue Lake” is inspired by the immense natural beauty found in Iwate prefecture’s Hachimantai, where Grand Seiko produced many of its mechanical watches. Frozen waterfalls, frost covered lakes, and the magic of the most perfect of snowy winter days are distilled into what can only be described as a decidedly elegant package.
