LNG vs LPG - Gas Comparison (Which Gas Is Better Than The Other?). In this comparison video I will talk about Lng vs Lpg.
So, the main difference is the process of liquefaction.
LNG, having -161 degrees Celsius as the current scientific boiling point figures, takes longer to be liquefied. Additionally, LNG gas is liquefied using a cryogenic process that requires special equipment and processing. On the other hand, LPG with a boiling point of -42 degrees Celsius can be easily liquified at light pressure. You do not need specialized processes and skills to Liquify the LPG gas.
Therefore, LPG gas, having a higher boiling point, requires less effort to be liquified than LNG gas, which requires a specialized cryogenic process.
Ease of use
LNG, before use, requires to be regasified, a process of turning the gas from its liquid form to the normal form. The regasification is done by vaporizers, devices that turn the gas from liquid to gaseous. On the other hand, LPG is used directly from the stored vessel.
Therefore, it is easier to use LPG gas than LNG gas.
Transportation cost
Despite LNG Being cheaper itself, with a lower boiling point, it requires specialized materials for storage so that it can be transported. LNG is stored in a costly cryogenic environment to maintain it in the liquid form from source point to destination. It also requires insulation to prevent heat from penetrating the storage tanks. LPG gas, on the other hand, has a higher boiling temperature and, therefore, doesn't require special materials when transporting; the LPG remains in liquid form in steel tanks.
LPG, therefore, is cheaper to transport compared to LNG gas.
But do they have any similarities?
Yes. LPG and LNG exist as gases at room temperature. LPG has a boiling point of -42 degrees Celsius, while LNG is -161 degrees Celsius. Therefore, at 25 degrees Celsius, which is room temperature, LPG and LNG are gases.
So, to sum up, which is better- Liquefied Natural Gas or Liquified Petroleum Gas?
Though LNG itself is cheaper, it has fewer benefits compared to LPG gas. It is easier to liquify, use and transport the LPG. I, therefore, choose LPG as the better gas to use.
