Madagascar's Sapphire Mine Threatens the Lives of Lemurs
Madagascar is known as an island that has the third highest level of biodiversity on planet Earth, after Brazil and Indonesia. Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world and is home to 5% of the world's biodiversity.
However, the amazing wild lemurs that are the identity of the island of Madagascar are threatened with extinction, because they have been replaced by mining which is seen as more promising. Indeed, apart from being known as the home of lemurs, Madagascar also has great potential as a sapphire producing country. Madagascar, produces about half of the world's sapphires, although unfortunately, most of this sapphire mining is done illegally.
