LEAD IN :
Esref Armagan is celebrated as a remarkable artist in his native Turkey.
A nature lover he paints the natural world including butterflies, trees and fish.
There is just one challenge. Esref has never seen any of these things in reality as he was born blind.
STORYLINE :
Esref Armagan lives in Ankara, Turkey with his wife Nilufer, who is also blind.
Nilufer lost her eye sight when she was 15 years old.
Her husband reports that he was born blind.
But Esref's disability has not prevented him from pursuing his passion for painting.
In fact he took part in an academic paper written by John Kennedy, a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto in 2006.
Kennedy confirms that Esref is a 'congenitally totally blind man' and that one eye is absent and the other is deformed, being very small and insensitive to light.
Esref does ask his wife for help to depict shapes or describe different colours for him.
