Did you know that it has been 70 years since Rudolf and Nancy Talbots opened the doors at their first freestanding store in Hingham, Massachusetts. Their successful catalog business was launched the following year with a mailing to 3,000 addresses obtained from The New Yorker magazine.
For seven decades, millions of women have shared the special occasions (and the day-to-day moments) of their lives with Talbots. And they’ve been there, offering timeless and timely pieces with the effortless chic and thoughtful confidence that epitomizes modern classic style.
Talbots has taken women to the Oval Office and the corner office. The brand has been invited to weddings, graduations, bridal showers, baby showers—and more than a fair share of rain showers. You’ll find it under a Christmas tree, sitting at a Thanksgiving table and celebrating at a birthday party. It’s been on wish list and gift list more times that we can count. Talbots has built an incredible relationship with generations of women.
Over the decades, Talbots has dressed some of the most influential, powerful, accomplished (and yes, cool) women—from Oprah and Katie Couric to Taylor Swift, Jessica Alba and Michelle Obama.
To toast this banner year, Talbots has created a capsule of exclusive pieces, one for each decade in their story. From Lauren Bacall’s crisp white shirt and Audrey Hepburn’s little black dress to Ali MacGraw’s turtleneck and Faye Dunaway’s power blazer, these style icons were the inspiration for their anniversary collection.
