Cantor Avi Albrecht Official Biography
Avi Albrecht appears in every major city in the United States, Canada, and world-wide, enjoying audiences’ standing ovations wherever he performs his unique, masterful programs. The handsome baritone is in demand from the east coast of Portland, Maine to the west coast of Portland, Oregon; from the northern icy plains of Edmonton, Canada to the warm southern shores of Miami, Florida with hundreds of stops in between. Engagements take him from New York City’s 5,000 seat Radio City Music Hall to intimate cabarets with equal ease and grace. His repertoire is extensive and varied. It includes standard symphonic music and special symphonic "pop" scores as well as Broadway favorites, Spanish ballades, Yiddish standards, Ladino romanceros, Italian arias, Russian folk songs, German lieder, Neopolitan melodies, French arias, Hebrew and Israeli songs and special material for special occasions.
Avi appears as guest soloist with some of the major symphony orchestras such as the Prague Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Queens Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. One of his most memorable guest appearances was with the Israel Philharmonic in Israel for the 50th year anniversary of the State of Israel. Another stunning engagement occurred during the current intifada in Jerusalem with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. In spite of the danger in the streets, the people came in droves, packed the concert hall and cheered the charismatic singer.
Recently, conductor-composer Marvin Hamlisch invited Avi to sing in a special evening honoring Howard Stringer, President of Sony Records. The event took place in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel Ballroom before a star-studded audience directed by Nora Ephron (author-director of "Sleepless in Seattle") and hosted by TV personality Barbara Walters.
Avi sings for some of the grandest national conventions, including the Ellis Island Celebration, Hadassah, Emunah, Council of Jewish Federations General assembly, Cantors Assembly, American Sephardi Federation, Orthodox Cantors Convention, the American Conference of Cantors and the United Synagogue of America.
As Avi is a composer of note, many Cantors sing his melodies to Sabbath prayers during their Sabbath services. Congregations particularly enjoy Avi’s Adon Olom and Sim Shalom, both of which appear with over 150 pages of original selections, all for voice and piano, many also including choir parts in "SONGS FROM THE SOUL." It is fast becoming a favorite collection for laity and professionals alike.
The collection includes songs for Weddings, Z’mirot, Liturgical/Cantorial selections, Shabbat songs and miscellaneous songs. Avi is a frequent guest artist with the world-known Celebrity Cruises and is asked to appear time and again due to his great success.
Avi Albrecht is available for performances with his own piano accompanist, and/or with his own orchestra. (The size of the orchestra depends on the budget of the presenter.) Programs can be tailor-made for the occasion. Avi is the Cantor of the well-known Beth Tfiloh Congregation in Baltimore, Maryland, the largest Modern Orthodox Synagogue in America.
