USS Detroit (CL-8) was an Omaha-class light cruiser commissioned on July 31, 1923. It served as part of the Scouting Fleet, patrolling the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The cruiser played important roles in history, assisting the first aerial circumnavigation of the world and transporting the US Secretary of State for peace negotiations. During WWII, it escorted convoys and participated in operations in various regions. After the war, it contributed to repatriating Japanese personnel. The USS Detroit was decommissioned in January 1946 and eventually sold for scrap, concluding its distinguished naval career.
