Four Newson Health GPs discuss the principles and challenges of treating the menopause after breast cancer or a family history of breast cancer. They outline which types of breast cancer pose a risk with HRT and explain about those types that do not have an increased risk with HRT, in spite of overgeneralised caution from some health professionals.
The doctors mention the ‘Montgomery’ case in this film.
The Montgomery case involved a mother who had a child with cerebral palsy due to a difficult labour. She took the Consultant Obstetrician to court alleging that she had not been told about all the risks associated with a vaginal delivery.
The ruling changed the way patient consent is approached by medical professionals and gives more responsibility to the patient to make the decision, once all the relevant information about risks and benefits has been discussed.
