One of the main reasons you get stuck in a freestyle rap is after the first few words…
You often don’t have a topic to rap on and…
you don’t know how to stay on topic and weave stores and punchlines into that off the top rhyme.

Review Your “Rhyme Chains”
Now if you didn’t catch our last article on freestyling:
We basically explained that your first step when learning how to freestyle rap is to start memorizing a couple often-used “rhyme chains” or “rhyme schemes” that will help you be able to always have rhymes at your disposal when your mind goes blank.
In other words, have many phrases you ALREADY know rhyme, such as:
Off the top, not gon’ stop, drop a lot, pop a shot, etc.
So that you always have some rhymes to “FALL BACK” on once you are nervous your freestyle is going to end.
This is how you start to master the art of never getting stuck in a freestyle rap.
#1 Write Down 3 “Fall Back” Topics
Now, outside of just having some tried-and-true “rhyme schemes” to fall back on…
You should have TOPICS to fall back on as well.
That means that you should have different subject matters about yourself, your life, and the people you freestyle around that you can always FALL BACK on when your mind goes blank.
A really good example of this would be the your current level of employment or your school if you are a student.
So for my example, you better believe that I not only know that I can ALWAYS freestyle about being a YouTuber…
But I have a series of rhymes that I can fall back on to build around that topic:
YouTube, huge views, crew shoots, too smooth, etc.
We’ll build on what I’ve just described in the next step, but with this in mind, your first step to learning how to never get stuck in a freestyle rap is:
WRITE DOWN 3 FALL BACK TOPICS YOU CAN ALWAYS FREESTYLE ABOUT
(Take a second and quit reading until you’ve completed this if you’d like)
Once you’ve done that, you can move onto…
#2 Write Down 5 Rhyme Chains For Each Fall Back Topic
Now that you’ve got those three topics down that you can always freestyle about…
…And you’ve already learned form the last article this article’s review that you need RHYME CHAINS you can fall back on…
The next step is coming out with pre-selected RHYME chains that overlap with those topics.
Again remember how I said I always can fall back on YouTube as a topic?
What I hinted at there and said we’d build on is the fact I notice only know YouTube is a topic…
But I also immediately knew words that RHYMED with YouTube so I never get stuck.
That’s the power of combining FALL BACK TOPICS with FALL BACK RHYMES.
Therefore, your next goal here is to look at your 3 fall back topics and think of five rhymes each fall back topic.
So for example let’s say you’re a, college student, and one of your topic is being in college. You should know a bunch of rhymes for college degree, because it’s going to come up a lot:
College Degree, Knowledge Exceeds, Scholar Can Read, Dollars and Fees, etc.
WRITE 5 RHYMES FOR EACH FALL BACK TOPIC.
(Again take a second if you need to and write this down)
Okay so you now have 3 topics to fall back on to any time you go blank, and EVEN BETTER you now have rhymes you can play around with when you’re going off the top.
Now you can move on to…
