This video covers the first year and a half of my mental illness when I started hearing voices. I hope to shed light on my most evident psychotic symptom while mentally ill, my voices (clinically "auditory hallucinations" or "paracusia"), by telling of its onset.
I delve into my past, to when I first started hearing voices over two decades ago. This personal narrative tells how hearing voices can be insidious, starting out as readily explainable to be something other than hearing voices by the person experiencing it. I tell of my eventual psychotic break, my first experience inside a mental hospital, my first exposure to psychiatry and mental health infrastructure, and my subsequent encounter with psychotropic medication. Throughout, I share insights gleaned from having lived with voices for 20 years, as well as from my recovery which followed.
