The East-West Metro Tunnel is an underwater river tunnel part of the Kolkata Metro system in Kolkata, West Bengal. Situated beneath the Hooghly River, it stands as India's largest underwater river tunnel designed specifically for metro rail services.
The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of the underwater Metro line marks a pioneering achievement in India's transportation infrastructure. This section boasts the nation's inaugural transportation tunnel beneath a river, traversing under the Hooghly River. Notably, it also hosts India's deepest Metro station, situated at Howrah with a depth of 30 meters.
For the first two kilometres, the fare is Rs 5, and then it increases to Rs 10, Rs 15, Rs 20 Rs 25 and so on up till Rs 50.
