(25 Mar 2022) A group of 134 Ukrainian refugees arrived at Frankfurt Airport on Friday from Moldova.
They were the first of about 2,500 who are due to travel to Germany from the former Soviet republic.
The U.N.'s refugee agency has estimated that 376,000 people have fled to Moldova from Ukraine.
In a news conference in Frankfurt, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said there were about 14,000 places across Europe for refugees in Moldova.
She said an "air bridge" out of Moldova was the "most important step" in helping the country deal with the influx of refugees.
In total, more than 3.7 million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion started a month ago.
