West Virginia’s old time music dates back to the 19th century. The mountain music varies throughout the state, and can be unique to each individual county – sometimes each hollow.
In an effort to preserve the fading musical tradition of Greenbrier County, old time fiddlers Doug Van Gundy and Annie Stroud partnered through the W.Va. Humanities Council’s Folklife Apprentice Program and spent a year mastering the music.
Inside Appalachia spent time with the duo to learn about how they're passing down the hundreds-of-years old music in today’s modern world.
