The diaphone at Royal Sovereign. First sounded in 1971, it was a Stone-Platt G-type design. The horn trumpet faced upwards (on the section below the lantern) and with a mushroom shaped deflector, allowed the sound 360 degrees direction. It could be heard normally 4-5 nautical miles away but frequently on the sea front at Eastbourne depending on wind direction. It was replaced with a Honeywell 800 Hz electric emitter when the station was demanned. In September 2023, the lighthouse was removed from site. The first picture is my own from Hastings, others are from Google Images and copyright stays with their original owners.
This video lasts 26 mins so you can turn the volume up and annoy the neighbours or listen peacefully to another lost sound- great to help you nod off!
