During my talk I mention two novels that are similar to Murakami's, but, in my view, far superior:
Jonathan Lethem, Gun with Occasional Music (1994)
William Gibson, Idoru (1996)
*Published in English that year, published in Japanese in 1988.
Note: As well as a book about Talking Heads, Jonathan Lethem oversaw the publication of Dick's Exegesis, a huge undertaking. Sorry to rave about him, but he's an amazing writer. Nanu Nanu
