THE FLU!!!
The Flu is a disease that can spread rapidly and is caused by different types of strains that changes every year
The Flu vaccine helps protect you against the flu
When you get the vaccine, your body’s immune system produces it’s own protection against the disease.
It doesn’t protect against the common cold, it’s designed to protect against the viruses responsible for causing most cases of the flu.
It takes 2 weeks to take affect once received.
There is still a small chance you can catch the flu anyway, but the vaccine offers the best protection.
To develop vaccines, the World Health Organisation studies what strains of the flu are circulating in the Southern Hemisphere during their winter (our summer) then based on that EVIDENCE, forecast what Flu strains we are likely to get here in the Northern Hemisphere. The vaccine is then made to help protect us from THESE particular strains of the flu virus.
This year our flu vaccine in the NH protects us against 3 of the biggest strains that circulated in the SH last year during their winter.
Like all medicine, the vaccine can cause side effects, so your doctor or pharmacist will consult with you beforehand. Most possible side effects are not serious and disappear on their own in a day or two.
