In 2019, a fire wiped out a significant portion of the historic building, destroying the entire church spire. Since that fire, a team of 2,000 workers has put nearly 700 million euros ($758 million) into restoring Notre Dame Cathedral to its former glory. Workers are anticipated to complete construction in December 2024.
