The Y-Geräte or Y-device system, was a single-beam electronic distance measuring system used by the Luftwaffe in World War II to aid aircraft navigation.
In a previous video, we showed you the FuG16 ZY and touched on its essential role in Luftwaffe fighter group navigation. But we only covered the method of operation of the electronic distance ranging system in broad terms. In this video, we will look at the Y-device method in more detail and show you a demonstration of a Y ground station in simulated operation.
