Denmark and Germany have extensive networks of bike routes and it is easy to travel between the countries. From Kiel in northern Germany it is about 500 km to Copenhagen depending on the rout chosen. A scenic route goes over the Danish islands Als, Ærø, Langeland, Lolland, Falster, Bogø, Møn and Nyord to Sjælland. It is signposted as Østersøruten (Baltic Sea Cycle Route) and partly coincides with Eurovelo 7 and 10. It is flat cycling on paved and unpaved roads, mainly on bike lanes or small countryside roads. There are several ferries along the way, and also train connections Kiel-Flensburg on the German side, and from Nykøbing on Falster in Denmark.
