This adaptation of the movie found John Houseman repeating his signature role of Professor Kingsfield. The first season was on CBS, and the network liked the pilot but wanted a song. So the first episode had an instrumental of 'The First Years' (by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel) during the opening titles and a vocal at the end. That was changed after the pilot was picked up to a vocal over the opening and closing sung by Seals and Crofts.
When the show moved to Showtime the producers had a little more control over things so they scrapped the song entirely and Stephen Seretan, who had composed background music during the first season, scored both the open and close with a pseudo-classical piece. Enjoy all three themes and with luck, you'll leave thinking like a lawyer.
