In 1929, Stokowski gave the US Premiere of the recently published original edition of Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov." For a 1952 'highlights' LP of the opera, he reverted to the more usually performed Rimsky-Korsakov edition. From a CD reissue of that recording, made with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, we hear the opening of the 'Coronation Scene' and then the distant voices of the Monks chanting in the Chudov Monastery.
