How does grief impact our mental health, and what strategies can we employ to nurture our well-being through times of loss and transition?
In this conversation, Dr. Mekel Harris and Nina Rodriguez discuss the intersection of grief and mental health. Dr. Harris shares her personal journey of losing her parents, and how it influenced her work in grief and loss.
They explore the importance of presence and authenticity in supporting individuals navigating grief. Dr. Harris emphasizes the role of faith and spirituality in her own grief process, and how it has influenced her work. They also touch on the limitations of the "stages of grief" model. She emphasizes that grief is a unique and individual experience, and the stages of grief are potential emotional reactions, rather than a linear progression. She also highlights the importance of being grief-informed and finding a provider who understands grief.
Dr. Harris offers resources and programs, including Bloomwell Partners LLC, which focuses on providing grief-informed support in the workplace, and the Reimagining Life After Loss Community, which helps individuals reframe their lives after loss. She also emphasizes the mind-body-spirit connection in grief, and the importance of self-compassion and finding touch points of hope in everyday experiences.
