Mandate was founded by Joseph Drake and Nathan Kahane in 2005 when Senator International completed a management buyout from Senator Entertainment AG. The company based in Santa Monica, California and in 2012 Mandate's founders launched Good Universe. Mandate Pictures is owned by Lionsgate, since 2007.
