[ Ссылка ] Ara Vaporciyan, M.D., F.A.C.S., MHPE, is a professor and the Chairman of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Vaporciyan began his training in 1982 at the University of Michigan where he obtained an honors degree in cellular and molecular biology then moved to medical school at the same institution. In 1989 he arrived in Houston and began his general surgery residency at The University of Texas Houston Health Science Center.
He joined the faculty at MD Anderson in 1998. Dr. Vaporciyan became interested in thoracic surgery because he wanted to be integral in the care of the patient. He guides the patient through their treatment and helps them make informed decisions about their care. Dr. Vaporciyan pushes the field to innovate through collaboration and research.
Outside of work, he takes great pride in his family. He has a wife and three children, the oldest who recently graduated from college and is beginning a career as a high school teacher. Dr. Vaporciyan's hobbies include reading, finding great restaurants, and carpentry.
