Today we begin our visit to the so-called historical villages of Portugal, but before visiting the first of them we stop at Penedono, where sunrise with cold and fog that do not prevent us from enjoying the visit to this small village. By the Rua do Castelo we arrive at the Plaza 25 de Abril, where we find a Pelouriño and behind this the castle of the 10th century and later rebuilt in the 16th Century, and in whose interior there is little left of such insignia residence. We enjoy walking along the streets to the other end of Penedono, where the Clock Tower is located, to descend again to the square where the City Hall and the small Chapel of Calvary are located, with a pulpit on the outside in one of its windows, very practical for Holy Week, due to the small size of the chapel. Back to the parking lot we find the Church of San Pedro, the main church of Penedono, and in the same parking lot a monument in memory of the Portuguese fighters who died in the colonial wars. We leave Penedono and head to Marialva, the first of the historic villages we will visit. With Lusitan origins in the 2nd century BC, it was successively in power of Romans, Goth and Arabs, until the 11th century, which was reconquered by the king of León, although in the 16th Century began its decadence and depopulation. After crossing its walls we travel back in time, enjoying the remains of what was a walled city that was accessed by several gates, defended by several towers and crowned by a castle, and that makes any visitor enjoy. We can walk through its narrow and twisted streets, stroll through its wall, visit the remains of the castle, or admire its small but beautiful square, before leaving the walled enclosure and stroll through the streets of the Arrabal that grew from the 12th century in the shadow of citadel.
