Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) and Waverley Care hosted two free webinars to recognise World AIDS Day 2020, which explored international and Scottish approaches to addressing localised HIV outbreaks.
This is the second webinar, which seeks to highlight and share local responses to Glasgow's current HIV outbreak.
Since 2015, there has been an ongoing HIV outbreak amongst people who inject drugs in Glasgow. Although testing and treatment delivery redesign has made a significant impact on transmission, the outbreak remains ongoing with some spread beyond the original Glasgow city centre cluster.
As a result of this continued outbreak, both SDF and Waverley Care welcomed a panel of local speakers who shared knowledge on how they are working on the frontline to tackle the outbreak and help people most affected by it.
The speakers included:
- Lynsey Boyd, Sexual Health/HIV Outreach Nurse, Sandyford/Hunter Street Homeless Health Service
- Rebecca Blair, Advanced Clinical Pharmacist PHOENIx Team, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
- Wendy Cooper, Health Improvement Coordinator, Waverley Care
- Colin Gibson, Blood Borne Virus Outreach Clinical Nurse Specialist - Brownlee Outreach
This event was chaired by Fiona Gilbertson, Founder and Director of Recovering Justice.
