I love transparent overdrive pedals, for my sins. My Paul Cochrane Timmy and my Greer Lightspeed Organic Overdrive are two of my very favorites – because they always seem to make me sound a bit better, no matter what I’m playing. And for that reason, at least one of them is almost always on whenever I pick up the guitar.
So today, I thought I’d pit these transparent titans against one another and see how similar – and how different – they actually are. Nothing scientific, nothing complicated, just a couple of loops where I tweak the pedals’ knobs so we can really hear what they sound like against one another – and stacked together.

Good luck finding a Timmy, as I explain in the video! But thankfully you can also you can get the MXR Timmy (designed with Paul Cochrane himself): [ Ссылка ]
So, have a listen and tell me which one you prefer! First we have an indie rock loop played on my Fender Telecaster’s bridge single coil pickup, and then a classic rock loop played on the bridge humbucker of my Epiphone Les Paul.

My setup was as follows: I ran the pedals into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my TC Electronic Ditto Looper to play the loops.
