Kyphosis is a spinal disorder in which an excessive outward curve of the spine results in an abnormal rounding of the upper back.
It can occur at any age but is most common in adolescence.
Many times, kyphosis doesn’t require treatment.
Some patients may benefit from a back brace or physical therapy to improve posture and strengthen the spine.
In severe cases, kyphosis can cause:
• Pain
• Significant spinal deformity
• Breathing problems
Surgery for these patients may be recommended.
