Wuyewuqiufeng, or Sycamore Leaves Dancing in Autumn Wind, has an extremely graceful and smooth melody that recalls the swirling leaves in autumn winds. Some historical documents also relate the piece with a Zhou dynasty anecdote about bestowing a royal domain to a prince with the token of a mere sycamore leaf. It utilizes some unique combinations of left hand fingerings and much lower reach surface board, which is also rare. The piece is famously interpreted by Master Wu Jinglue in the mid 20th century. The version I play here is from the early Qing dynasty guqin manual Qin xue xin sheng 琴學新聲 (1664).
