Lord Dattatreya is an incarnation of the holy trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. The lords have given themselves in the form of a son to Sage Atri and his wife Anasuya. Hence He is Atreya. Datta means "Given". Hence the name Dattatreya. Shri Gurudev Datta is everywhere to help mankind and animals. Reciting his mantra helps one to lead a pure life.

भगवान दत्तात्रेय सर्वव्यापी हैं। उनकी उपासना से मनुष्य को बुद्धि, ज्ञान और बल की प्राप्ति होती है। शत्रु बाधा दूर करने में भगवान दत्तात्रेय के मंत्र कारगर है। दत्त भगवान अपने भक्तों पर आने वाले संकटों को तुरंत दूर करते हैं।
शास्त्रों के अनुसार मार्गशीर्ष माह की पूर्णिमा पर भगवान दत्तात्रेय की जयंती मनाई जाती है।
अत: गुरुवार, पूर्णिमा अथवा दत्तात्रेय जयंती के दिन निम्न मंत्रों का उच्चारण करने से मनुष्य के जीवन के समस्त कष्ट जल्दी ही दूर हो जाते हैं।

Lord Dattatreya is the incarnation of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in one single form. The Lord incarnated on this earth in this form to relieve the people from the clutches of ignorance and light their hearts with the light of wisdom and spiritual joy.
Dattatreya is the avatar of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva in one form. 'Datta' means 'given and 'Atreya' means 'son of sage Atri'. Hence the name means 'the one who has given himself away as the son of sage Atri.' Lord Dattatreya was the son of Anasuya and Atri. He has three heads, which indicate the triad of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Dattatreya is regarded as the personification of all gods, saints, prophets, and yogis. He is also the Guru of all gurus. Dattatreya incarnated on earth to free people from ignorance and bestow spiritual joy and wisdom to them.
