A central aspect of clowning (and most artistic endeavor) is the ability to 'get out of one's own head' and work from a different place (e.g. elbow or earlobe, says Jef). Or the heart, perhaps?
Seriously, though, here's a teaser of what Jef has to say on this topic:
'We have to get out of the head and social fear of opinions and behaving properly and all that noise. The rest is instinctual. Flow, frequency, all are participatory, reactive..driven by your native empathy. Liberating ourselves from the overwhelm of concern about proper social behavior should be the first step, not the final step.
'Clown reminds us of the state of innocent fascination, stupid interest and determination, which emerges from a positive, dynamic joy that we all possess for connecting and "knowing" ourselves with respect to our surroundings. As anglophones we struggle in particular with getting out of this head space of labels and definitions.
