Preparation of Hager's reagent

Hager's test
*The crude or pure alkaloid material (50-100 mg) is warmed with 10-15 mL of dil.HCl at 60 degree Celsius (10 min) in water bath, then the solution is cooled and filtered by Whatman filter paper 1
*Take 3-5 mL of above filtrate in glass test tube and add Hager's reagent (0.5 to1 mL) from side of test tube. Test positive results will give yellow colored precipitate, indicating the presence of alkaloids
