In this video I share my thoughts on the minuses of using progressive springs on a coilover suspension kit & what is the better option. (With subtitles)
0:00 Short answer - No. Let me explain
0:20 Why fit coilovers? - Stability at all costs. Extreme forces put through car ie **TRACK USE**
0:30 Linear springs are coilover springs - Linear springs allow suspension to load up faster than with progressive springs
0:40 Problem with progressive springs - Slower loading of suspension can cause instability especially in fast direction changes. Progressive springs load up slower than linear springs.
1:28 Only reason the buy coilovers - Increase stability when cornering/braking forces high/extreme ie track use.
2:00 Fitting coilovers which are supplied with progressive springs - Coilovers are for maximum stability, fitting springs which are not optimum for stability (ie progressive) defeats the point of fitting coilovers. If you are buying coilovers for better performance.
2:10 What I would do if I were to use progressive springs in my suspension - If I wanted an improvement in stability while keeping the car comfortable for road use I would just fit H&R springs. Much cheaper and arguably, for day to day driving, better performance than coilovers, for day to day driving.
2:40 Coilovers with progressive springs. Why do they exist? - For people who think they need coilovers on their road car for better performance. And people who want height adjustability.
3:40 Cheap coilover kits - For looks, not for better on road performance.
5:10 Let me know what you think!
