More than 1500 pharmacists from around the world attended the Reckitt-sponsored webinars to ‘Accelerate AMR Action’, hosted by GRIP and FIP, timed to coincide with World Antibiotic Awareness Week from November 18th, 2021.
Building on our work from AMR Roadmaps in 2020, six regional sessions saw GRIP Chair Sabiha Essack introduce AMR advocates from the Americas, Europe, South East Asia, Africa, Western Pacific and the Eastern Mediterranean, as they sought to highlight the leadership role of pharmacists in antimicrobial stewardship.
Case studies demonstrated best practice examples from across regions, with participants voting on the initiative which had the best ability to be replicated in other markets.
Followed by an innovative debate exploring “Are pharmacists the protagonists in the fight against antibiotic resistance?”, the session heard from compelling arguments for how pharmacy makes a meaningful impact on the inappropriate use of antibiotics.
