"Type 89 medium tank" is a Japanese medium tank of the 1930s. It was created in 1929 and became the first Japanese serial tank of its own development. Also, the Type 89 became the world's first serial tank with a diesel engine. In the 1930s, before mass production of Ha-Go and Chi-Ha tanks began, the Type 89 formed the basis of the Japanese tank forces. By the beginning of the Second World War, it was mostly replaced in the army by more modern tanks, but the last battles of this type of machine took place in 1944 in the Philippines. In the literature, sometimes the name "Chi-Ro" is used, deciphered as "middle first", but it appeared already in the West.
