STORYLINE
Two sets of vehicles left a court building in Belgrade where former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic was being held, early on Wednesday morning.
It was not known whether Karadzic was in either of the convoys.
No further information was known about the departing vehicles.
Earlier, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at stone-hurling extremists in downtown Belgrade on Tuesday night as ultranationalists protested the government's plans to extradite Karadzic to the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague.
Karadzic spent nearly 13 years on the run before being arrested last week in Belgrade, only a few weeks after Boris Tadic's government came to power.
He is still revered by many as a wartime hero for helping to create the Bosnian Serb mini-state.
