Pregnant women with thyroid disorders have higher pregnancy complications rates. The thyroid, a gland in the neck that helps regulate metabolism, can sometimes become over or under active, causing a wide range of symptoms. A recent study found that women with thyroid disorders are at higher risk for complications during pregnancy including pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes and giving birth early among others.
