On this day in 1938, the former owner of Alfa Romeo and Italian industrialist Nicola Romeo died.


With two bachelor degrees, Romeo formed a company making mining equipment. In 1915 he purchased a majority share in the ALFA car manufacturer in Milan, Italy. By 1918 he had bought the entire company and added his surname.


Despite gaining a good name the company encountered financial problems and Romeo was forced to leave in 1928.
