The Active Citizens Movement in partnership with Amnesty International SA (Durban) commemorated International Human Rights Day on 10 Dec 2022
This event was at the 1860 Heritage Centre, included a number of speakers who reflected the impact of corruption, current electoral system, environment degradation on Human Rights.
Among the speakers were:

Neeshan Balton, Ahmed Kathrada Foundation & Defend Our Democracy
Thandeka Gqubule-Mbeki, National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council
Bobby Peek, Presidential Climate Commission and Groundwork
Adv Sanjuri Naidoo, lead advocate on ACM memorandum to State Capture Commission on whistle-blower protection
Dr Steve Naidoo , Forensic Pathologist
Coral Vinsen Amnesty International (Durban)
Amnesty International SA (Durban) launched the Write for Rights campaign, a global letter writing campaign. This year the focus will be on assassinated environmentalist, Fikile Ntshangase.
Slain whistle-blower, Babita Deokaran was also be acknowledged as a human rights defender for her courageous and selfless pursuance of corruption in the Gauteng Department of Health. for which she paid the ultimate price. Her family received a portrait of her by renowned artist, Nanda Soobben.
