After 30 days of incubation it is finally time for the goslings to hatch. They’ve been at 99.5°F and the humidity at 50% until lockdown and now they’re coming out. For 30 days the embryo is fed by the yolk through an umbilical cord. On one of their last days inside the egg they grow an egg tooth so they can crack the egg open and be born. When they come out of the egg they have to break out of the shell and also the sac they’ve been held by inside the egg.
The goslings must stay in the incubator until they have completely dried. They will fluff up and be very cute. Then into the brooder they must go. If they are hatched by mother goose they will snuggle up to mom for warmth.
Theses are Sebastopol goslings. Sebastopol geese are white curly feathered geese. Because of their unique feathers they can not fly. And they love to swim in clean water everyday and eat fresh grass.
