Where to go backpacking in the early season when the mountains are still full of deep snow? My buddy Chris and I decided to try hiking along the Selway River in Idaho, hoping that the river corridor would be free of snow and the feeder streams not impossible to ford. This was a 4-day trip, covering 50 miles out and back from Race Creek Trailhead to Moose Creek Ranger Station in April, 2022, and it led to some great surprises.
