A day-trip to Mount Yoshino, the birthplace of the Yoshino cherry species, so popular around Japan for its beautiful sakura blossoms in spring.
As well as its 4 cherry tree areas (from lowest to highest: Shimo-senbon, Naka-senbon, Kami-senbon and Oku-senbon), it is the home of several shrines, including UNESCO World Heritage site Kimpusen-ji, which had a special opening event that included a rather surprising art exhibition.
I made my way from Kintetsu Railways' Yoshino Station in the Shimo-senbon area, all the way up to Yoshino Mikumari Shrine in the high Kami-senbon area (sorry for forgetting the name in the video!).
The trip takes about 90 minutes by regular express train from Osaka-Abenobashi station, or 75 minutes by Limited Express train (this needs a reservation).
