Kenya has emerged as a global leader in renewable energy: almost 90% of its electricity now comes from green sources. Since the 1980s, the government has focused on geothermal – which now generates a third of the country’s electricity. But Nairobi is also emerging as a global leader in solar energy generation. Generating power from the East African nation’s sunshine could revolutionise its energy sector in terms of cost-effectiveness and scalability, as FRANCE 24’s Olivia Bizot and Elodie Cousin report.
