On June 30, 1908, a mysterious explosion rocked the Siberian wilderness near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River. Known as the Tunguska event, this massive explosion flattened an estimated 80 million trees over 2,150 square kilometers, yet left no discernible crater. Believed to be caused by the air burst of a small asteroid or comet fragment, the explosion's force is estimated to be equivalent to 12 megatons of TNT. Despite its remote location, the event was felt hundreds of kilometers away and has sparked over a century of scientific inquiry and debate. The Tunguska event remains one of the most significant natural mysteries of the 20th century, offering a stark reminder of Earth's vulnerability to cosmic events.
